Bethany Strickland – Training Contract

Given the aspirational nature of most people’s career goals, the journey to professional attainment is rarely short and usually demands a high degree of dedication and effort to complete.

That is certainly the case for Bethany Strickland, whose dream of practising law as a solicitor has already seen a significant investment of time and grey matter.

Indeed, when the 26-year-old qualifies next year, she will have successfully navigated her way through a decade’s worth of school exams, university lectures, law college seminars and on-the-job training.

And while Bethany’s drive has been unfaltering throughout, she credits her current employer with supplying a steadfast shoulder of support and boosting her desire to cross the finishing line.

“I knew that becoming a solicitor can be a long, drawn-out process but that’s just the way it goes, and it was never going to put me off,” explained the University of Law alumna, who joined Accident Claims Lawyers as an administration assistant in 2018 before being promoted to a junior member of the firm’s serious injury team later the same year.

“I’ve received nothing but encouragement since the day I arrived and am extremely grateful for all that Accident Claims Lawyers has done to help me on my way to achieving something I’ve always wanted to do.

“To be supported through my LPC [Legal Practice Course] was great and to then be given the chance to complete my two-year training contract with the company was truly fantastic. In Tom Phillips and Jon Shields, I am also very lucky to be learning from the best and I could not ask for better professional role models.”

Despite having never considered specialising in serious injury law before her arrival at Accident Claims Lawyers, Bethany insisted she has found her forte and hopes to continue in the field for the foreseeable future.

Nor, she concluded, has she been dissuaded from doing so by the misconceptions of others.

“In social settings I’ve heard people describe personal injury lawyers as ‘ambulance chasers’ but it really doesn’t bother me because it does not reflect the reality of the professional service Accident Claims Lawyers provide.

“Through our work we are often supporting people who have suffered horrific injuries and it is incredibly rewarding knowing that if we can help them in the slightest way then we can make a positive difference to their lives and those of their families.

“If someone has suffered a brain injury or amputation as a result of an accident, they deserve the best help available and there’s no need for embarrassment about being the ones to give it.”

Good things come to those who wait and when Bethany fulfils her career goal next year, she has every intention of sharing the ‘good’ for the benefit of others.
